ODESSA FINE ARTS AT THE TURN OF THE CENTURIES
Whatever is the name of the state, but the city in it called Odessa was always different from any other city. It was different with its style, its inhabitants and, definitely, its culture. Art, including painting, was not an exception.
At the end of the ХIХ century the best masters of the Association of South-Russian Artists – the continuers of the Itinerants’ traditions in their modernized, according to the practice of Barbizon School, version – Kiriak Kostandi, Tit Dvornikov, Petr Nylus, founded the basis for the future school of art.
Other legendary Odessites – Teophil Fraerman, Mikhail Boychuk and others, beginning their creative activity as members of avant-garde groups, added new spirit into the classical school – that is how the modern art of Odessa was born.
